Our Management Team


Kim Skaarup – Chief Operating Officer


Having worked for ShipServ for most of its 16 year history and most recently as Chief Operating Officer, Kim has taken over the day-to-day reins of the company.

With over 25 years of shipping and IT experience, Kim started his career as a graduate trainee at J. Lauritzen A/S, then one of the world’s largest Reefer operators.

After a period in accounting he became the company’s first IT Manager introducing, amongst other things, one of the world’s earliest e-mail systems in the early 80’s.

He then worked as Assistant to the Chairman of the Lauritzen Group (Denmark’s third largest conglomerate) before moving back to J.Lauritzen, as head of all purchasing activities and outsourced services. He was subsequently promoted to Senior Vice President of IT/Procurement.

Kim joined ShipServ in December 2000 and has been a council member of IMPA (International Marine Purchasing Association) since 1994. He has a B.Com from Copenhagen Business School and a degree from INSEAD.


Stephen Coxhead – Chief Financial Officer


Steve joined ShipServ in October 2012 as Chief Financial Officer.

In Steve’s early career he worked as a Financial Controller in the food Manufacturer British Bakeries. He has since held senior finance positions in a number of software and telecoms companies including eGain (a NASDAQ listed software company), Agillic, an early stage lifecycle management company and eTrader, an eMarketplace for secondary goods.

Stephen has also acted as a consultant to Symantec Inc following their merger with Veritas and on behalf of Venture Capital Companies within stressed portfolio businesses.

Steve has proven ability to guide companies through international expansion and difficult trading environments and will play a key role in driving Shipserv’s growth strategy.


David Hardy – Head of Supplier Sales and Chief Marketing Officer


David Hardy is a long time marketer and general manager from several different industries and has in depth experience of both offline and online businesses.

He joined ShipServ from Europe-wide digital marketing agency and SEO and PPC experts, bigmouthmedia (now part of the Publicis group), where he was Group Marketing Director. He was part of the leadership team which, as a result of organic growth, saw the agency become the largest and most respected digital marketing agency in the UK.

Prior to that he worked in online roles for Marks and Spencer Money and Hilton Hotels – in both these companies he was responsible for the online marketing budget and strategy.

David’s marketing career started with brand and offline marketing – he was with HSBC for 10 years and after that with American Airlines, where he was Head of Marketing for Europe.

David joined ShipServ in 2011.


Dr. Stuart May – Chief Product Officer


Stuart joined ShipServ in August 2007 and is responsible for product strategy and design. His previous roles include Product Director for Expedia Affiliate Network, the B2B division of the world’s largest online travel company and was the founding CTO of Ulysses Systems, where he led the design of the award winning ‘Task Assistant’,  an innovative knowledge management platform for the commercial shipping industry.

Prior to this he held software development positions at Novell and Toshiba Information Systems. Stuart studied for his Ph.D in Computer Science at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology. He also holds an M.Sc in Information systems Engineering and a B.Eng in Software Engineering.


Silvia Lam, Chief Service Delivery Officer & General Manager HK


Silvia leads both the Global Service Delivery team and the Service Delivery centre based in Manila.

With a degree in Computer Sci­ence and as a fully qualified Project Management Profes­sional, Silvia has more than 20 years experience in different aspects of IT projects and extensive exposure in various B2B eCommerce platforms. Silvia is actively involved in every aspect of ShipServ’s Global Service Delivery strategy.

Based in ShipServ’s Hong Kong office, Silvia joined ShipServ in 2007 and has personally overseen many of the integration projects for ShipServ’s current 190+ shipown­ers, managers, shipyards, suppliers and logistics providers.

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Silvia is fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin and English.


Mikael Weis – Executive Vice President & Chief Legal Officer

Mikael joined ShipServ in late 2000, and is currently overseeing the integration of Charles Kerr Enterprises into ShipServ.  He also handles some of our most important Key Accounts and has overall responsibility for Legal matters.

Prior to this Mikael established and ran our Client Relations team and Customer Service Centre in Manila.

Mikael has more than 20 years of maritime experience including a number of years at sea with among others Chevron and DFDS A/S.

While working at the Danish Shipowners Association of 1895 he represented shipowners in various national and international committees related to working environment and technical regulation. Mikael also managed an ISM programme to assist shipowners in their development of a Safety Management System. He has a Master Mariner background and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the University of Copenhagen.


Don Staffin – Senior Vice President & MD, Americas


Don was one of the founders and former EVP of iShipExchange, which merged with ShipServ in 2003. He was originally responsible for building the Americas business for ShipServ, including the successful entry into the cruise market.  He led the product management effort for several years, and is currently responsible for ShipServ’s Global Content.

Don co-founded Command Line Corp. in 1985, and served as Chief Executive Officer. Command Line Corp provided ERP software for a variety of industries including commercial maritime, and was one of the early innovators in marine e-commerce. He also spent three years at Chase Manhattan Bank in New York as an Investment Banking Associate.

Don holds an MBA in Finance from the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University, plus bachelors and masters degrees in Operations Research/Industrial Engineering, also from Cornell University.


Martin Buhl – Chief Commercial Officer


Martin joined ShipServ in August 2014 from Thrane & Thrane, the biggest provider of satellite solutions for the Maritime market where he held the position of Global Account Director and has vast experience in B2B global sales & marketing across a number of different international companies.

He was also the Executive Director of Sales at Radio Frequency Systems, part of Alcatel, the world’s largest manufacturing company for feeder cables, antennas and towers, where his key customers included Nokia, Siemens, Ericsson, Vodafone and T-Mobile.

A Market Economist graduate, with a major in International Marketing, Martin has overall responsibility for global buyer sales & account management.


Uladzimir Maroz – Vice President, Engineering


Ulad joined ShipServ in 2010 from Imagini and has over fifteen years of experience in IT engineering with particular focus on web development across a variety of industries including Marketing and Telecoms.

His role at ShipServ is to oversee all software development and IT operations.

He holds a Bachelor degree in IT management from the Belarusian State University and is fluent in Russian, Belarusian and English.
