Valves remains most sourced product for Maritime Buyers

The 2013 top category searches from ShipServ Pages highlights what’s hot in maritime purchasing

There was no change at the top for most searched for category on ShipServ Pages in 2013 with the Valve category registering a whopping 167,000 searches – an increase of over 20% from 2012 to remain firmly ensconced as the most popular product sourced by leading maritime purchasers.

However, there was a change in second place as the Mooring Ropes, Wires and cable category overtook Auxiliary Engine Spares for the first time showing a 37% increase.

Other high-growth categories inside the top 10 included Pumps with 32% growth, Anchors, Chains and Fenders with a 42% increase and Cranes, Winches and Lifts with a 28% rise.

The highest climber in the Top 20 was Electric Motors that jumped to 19th spot – a climb of 11 places with a whopping 64% increase in search volume.

There were only three categories in the Top 20 that showed a decrease in search volumes in 2013 – with Generators and Alternators registering the most significant drop of 5%.

In terms of brand searches on ShipServ Pages last year, Engine manufacturers dominated the list with five of the top ten brand searches going to Yanmar, MAN  Diesel, Mitsubishi, Yamaha and Caterpillar.

Marine Electronics manufacturers also figured with JRC and Furuno the leading brands.

MacGregor, Unitor and electrical components manufacturer Merlin Gerin made up the rest of theTop Ten.

In total there were over 3.5 million product, brand and category searches on ShipServ Pages in 2013 by many of the world’s leading shipowners, managers and shipyards including A.P. Moller-Maersk, Anglo Eastern, CMA CGM, Holland America Line and Teekay.
