Tolani Shipping becomes a jewel in ShipServ’s crown

Coup for ShipServ as bulk carrier owner becomes the first domestic Indian shipowner to sign up to ShipServ TradeNet.

London, 14 October, 2010ShipServ today announced the signing of Tolani Shipping to its marine and offshore e-marketplace, ShipServ TradeNet.

Headquartered in Mumbai and with associate operations in Singapore, Tolani has become the first domestic Indian shipping company to join TradeNet, joining a roster of international clients with operations in the country.

Tolani will use TradeNet to source spares and supplies for its expanding fleet of bulk carriers. The company will take delivery of three new Kamsarmaxes by early 2012 to serve long term customers alongside its six supramax and five panamax vessels trading globally.

“We are delighted to welcome Tolani Shipping to the ShipServ community,” commented Paul Ostergaard, Founder and CEO, ShipServ. “Tolani is a company that has always focussed on quality operations and worked to combine great efficiency with a young, safe fleet. We look forward to helping them become a fully fledged member of ShipServ and find more opportunities to create value.”

Mr C.V. Rao, director of Tolani Shipping said the company’s decision to join TradeNet reflects its innovative approach to its operations.

“Tolani has always moved and changed with the times and we have steadily augmented our fleet size and capacity to keep pace with changing trade patterns while at the same time aggressively bringing down the average age of our fleet,” he said.

“We pride ourselves on the maintenance of our fleet and our commitment to the highest standard of safety and environmental protection. Our operating record bears testimony to this and we believe using ShipServ can help maintain that enviable reputation.”

Tolani comes to ShipServ in partnership with SBN Technologics (SBNT), which has deployed its SHIP//MATE fleet management and purchasing software for the Tolani fleet. Software integration between TradeNet and Ship//Mate’s Stores and Procurement Systems module enables Tolani’s shipboard personnel to issue Requisitions to shoreside offices and Request for Quotations and Purchase Orders to suppliers, creating further efficiencies for its buyers.

Founded in the mid-1990s and based in India, SBNT is a shipping software product specialist, operating with a team of over 100 professionals. Its SHIP//MATE integrated fleet management software is recognised for its features, capabilities and cost-effectiveness. SBNT software is installed across 32 countries and over 142 offices.

Tolani joins a global ShipServ community of over 150 shipowners, managers, yards and drilling contractors trading with 35,000 suppliers to service 5,000 ships and rigs. ShipServ has an active presence in the Indian shipping market, with EMS Ship Management, Wilhelmsen Ship Management, Torm Shipping India, Shipcare Management, Anglo Eastern Ship Management and Teekay Shipping already signed up to the system.

Tolani’s innovative approach to business is characterised by its creation and support for several charitable trusts and foundations which make investments in education and social projects. These initiatives have created institutions recognised as centres of excellence in tertiary education and medical attention, with a combined enrolment of over 12,000 students.
