Online Advertising Tip #3 (of 10): Consider your ad unit

Different sites often use different sizes of adverts or “ad units”, and new units are being introduced all the time. You might want to pick an ad unit that is used by all the websites you’re interested in, to keep versions to a minimum.

Make sure you tailor your copy and design to the kind of unit you’ve bought: what works on a large scale won’t necessarily translate well onto a Micro Bar.

The most popular standard ad units (about 80% of all ads on the web) are:

Medium Rectangle: 300×250

Rectangle: 180×150

Leaderboard: 728×90

Wide Skyscraper: 160×600

Half Page Ad: 300×600

Button #2: 120×60

Micro Bar: 88×31
