Online Advertising Tip #3 (of 10): Consider your ad unit

Different sites often use different sizes of adverts or “ad units”, and new units are being introduced all the time. You might want to pick an ad unit that is used by all the websites you’re interested in, to keep versions to a minimum.

Make sure you tailor your copy and design to the kind of unit you’ve bought: what works on a large scale won’t necessarily translate well onto a Micro Bar.

The most popular standard ad units (about 80% of all ads on the web) are:

Medium Rectangle: 300×250

Rectangle: 180×150

Leaderboard: 728×90

Wide Skyscraper: 160×600

Half Page Ad: 300×600

Button #2: 120×60

Micro Bar: 88×31

Using ShipServ Pages

ShipServ Pages is one of the industry’s most popular websites, attracting thousands of buyers every day, actively looking to buy ship supplies. Because there are no casual browsers on Pages, all our visitors are purchasing professionals, looking to buy new supplies. This means you get your company in front of real buyers – maximizing your sales & marketing spend.

A Basic Listing on Pages is a fast and efficient way to get in touch with buyers for free. But if you want to leapfrog the competition then a Premium Listing on Pages is the way to go. Our analysis shows that buyers are 20 times more likely to get in touch with a Premium Listing supplier when compared to those represented by a Basic Listing. Your listing gets ranked higher in search results, appears in more searches, and you can link to more categories, brands, and ports.

Banner Advertising

If you want to build your brand even further, you can buy banner ad space on Pages:

General Banner Ad – A cost effective way to get started, these appear on the right-hand side of all search results and supplier profile pages.

Targeted Ad – These let you target specific categories, countries or even ports.

Home Page Banner Ad – These are displayed on the Pages Home Page for maximum marketing clout.
