ShipServ named one of the Tech Media Invest 100
The world’s leading marine and offshore e-marketplace recognised as an innovator in the UK technology scene.
London, UK, 13 September 2010 - ShipServ, the leading marine and offshore e-marketplace, was today named one of the Tech Media Invest 100.
The Tech Media Invest 100 (TMI) aims to showcase high-growth companies that are developing innovative ways to serve business and consumers, and have the potential to radically change the shape of the technology and media industry. It is awarded by the Guardian newspaper in conjunction with Europe Unlimited, Kemp Little and PwC.
The TMI Advisory Board deployed a detailed process to whittle down a pool of eligible, promising companies to get to the top 100 winners. Evaluations were made on both quantitative and qualitative criteria, such as financial performance, innovation, management, global strategy, and ecosystem integration.
Companies showcased entered the list either by applying or by nomination by the Tech Media Invest Advisory Board. The combined efforts of the Board and Selection Committee were used to evaluate companies. The resulting list was approved by Board, which consisted of some of the UK’s most experienced investors in modern technology and media – a mix of venture capitalists, investment analysts, professional advisers and technology lawyers, who applied judgement and identified the best performers and the ones to watch.
“This year, we are looking at companies with innovative business models. Companies simply don’t get on to the list if they’re not doing something different, ” said PwC director Brian Henderson. “What those top businesses have in common is that they have diversification in their business models. They’re not relying on one revenue stream they’ve got a portfolio, which is essential.”
ShipServ was founded in 1999 and originally specialised in facilitating the electronic trading of ship supplies between commercial ship owner/managers and suppliers. In the past few years the company’s offerings have expanded to include sourcing solutions for buyers and advertising, lead generation and customer service solutions for suppliers.
“We’re delighted to be recognised for the TMI, especially as the marine & offshore industry is often overlooked in such cross-industry awards,” said Paul Ostergaard, Founder & CEO, ShipServ. “Of course day-to-day we’re 100% focused on solving the real life problems of maritime buyers and suppliers, but it is great, once in a while, to be recognised for the innovations we’re driving.”
ShipServ’s products and services bring buyers and suppliers together online, in print, on ship and in person. The company offers the largest marine & offshore online trading platform (ShipServ TradeNet), the most used supplier search engine (ShipServ Pages), the leading ordering guide (Mariner’s Annual) and the first online ad network (ShipServ Ad Network). Today over 35,000 suppliers list their products and services via ShipServ in front of more than 70,000 online visitors.
The TMI will be honored at the Tech Media Invest 2010 Conference in London on Oct 18.
