Reviews and Customer Lists – for Buyers

I’m a Buyer – Help me to find great suppliers

Reviews are a compelling tool for buyers because recommendations are typically submitted by neutral third parties which no agenda. They save you time in finding a new supplier by focusing you on companies that have a good reputation as recognised the the ShipServ community.

We hope that this feature, which was developed at the request of the community, will form an ‘early warning system’ that helps buyers to avoid poor quality suppliers. Use this useful FAQ guide to help familiarise yourself with the new functionality.

Buyers – Frequently Asked Questions

What do reviews consist of?

Each review consists of a set of ratings and an optional comments field. The ratings consist of an overall opinion (positive, neutral or negative) and detailed 5-star ratings for whether the supplier delivered the items as described, whether they deliver on time and the level of customer service experienced. Reviews also contain a description of the category of product/service used and an optional “free text” comments field. Reviews are grouped by buying company – users within each buying compant can post as many reviews of a supplier as they like – assuming that the buying company has traded with that supplier.

How do I know the reviews are genuine?

A supplier review can only be submitted by users belonging to companies that have placed an order with that supplier via TradeNet. In other words, suppliers cannot review themselves and buyers that are not verified as having used that supplier cannot review them either.

How do I submit a review?

First you need to sign-in to Pages via the sign-in link on the top right of the Page. Use your email address and if you have forgotten your password, use the reminder facility provided. Find the supplier you want to review by searching for them in Pages in the normal way. Click their review tab and click ‘Add Review’. Fill in the details and submit.

I can see my company name on the supplier page and I am signed-in but I can’t see an option to submit a review

In order to submit a review in the name of a buying company you must be an authorised member of that company. To see which companies you are registered as a member of, sign-in and click the ‘My Profile’ link on the top right of the page and select the ‘My Companies’ option. If your company is not listed, click the ‘Add Company’ option and follow the on-screen instructions. This will email the administrator of your company and enable them to approve you as a member.

I don’t want my name next to my reviews

You can specify an alias to be used instead of your real name. Any reviews you have already submitted will be updated to use your new alias.

I don’t want my company name to be on the customer lists of my suppliers

You can elect to use a specially created ‘anonymised’ version of your company name instead of your actual company name. To select your desired privacy level,

1. Sign-in to Pages and click the ‘My Profile’ option.
2. Click ‘My Companies’ and select the privacy tab.
3. From here you can set your desired level of exposure.

Note that you need to be an administrator of your company in order to change the privacy level.

I don’t know my login details for Pages. What should I do?

1. Sign in to Pages
2. Then select ‘Have you lost your password’ and enter your email address in the space provided.
3. If you already have an account, a password reminder email will be sent to you.
4. If the system says that your email address is not recognised, you will need to register (see below).

How do I register and get access to my company details?

1. Go to and click the ‘Register’ link on the top right corner of the page.
2. Complete the details as requested and click ‘Register me’. An account will now be created for you.
3. Next you need to link your account to your company. Click the ‘My Profile’ tab, top right of the page.
4. Click the ‘My Companies’ option on the left.
5. Click ‘+Add Company’
6. Select the ‘Search for Buyer’ option
7. Start typing the name of your company. A list of matching companies will appear.
8. Click on the name of your company when it appears.
9. Click OK to confirm the request.
10. You will now need to wait until the administrator of that company approves your request.

Your company may prohibit join requests. If this is the case you will need to contact you administrator directly.

I don’t understand the different privacy options! What do they mean?

1. “Allow my suppliers to list my company and allow all users to see it (Recommended)”

This is the least private option. The buyer is saying that they are allowing their suppliers to use their name on their profiles and are happy for all users to see it.

Who can see it?
• All Pages users will see your company name on the profile pages of your suppliers.

2. “Anonymise my company name on all supplier listings”

This is the most private option. Nobody outside of the trading relationship will see the company name.

Who can see it?
• Members of the buying company will see their name on all the profiles of the suppliers that they have traded with. Buyers know who their own suppliers are!
• Members of supplier companies will see the buyer name on their own supplier profile if they have traded with that buyer. Each supplier knows who their own customers are!
• All other users will see the anonymised version of the buyer name.

3. “Allow my suppliers to list my company, but only allow buyers within the TradeNet community to see it.”

The buyer is happy to share their supplier relationships but only with other members of the TradeNet buyer community. Suppliers and non-Tradenet buyers will see the anonymised name. This is a half-way option for buyers.

Who can see it?
• All users that are members of TradeNet buyer companies will see the buyer company name.
• Members of supplier companies will see the buyer name on their own supplier profile if they have traded with that buyer.
• All other users (i.e. all non-Tradenet buyers and other suppliers) will see the anonymised version of the name

4. “Allow my suppliers to list my company, but anonymise my relationship with specific suppliers”

This should be used by buyers that are generally happy to allow their suppliers to use their name, but would like to stop a few specific suppliers from doing so.

Who can see it?
• Members of the buying company will see their name on all the profiles of the suppliers that they have traded with.
• Members of supplier companies will see the buyer name on their own supplier profile if they have traded with that buyer.
• For all other users, the name will be anonymised on the profile pages of the selected suppliers. For all other suppliers, the real name of the buyer will be displayed.

Why can’t I set my own anonymised name?

The name needs to be anonymised in the overall context of all the other buyer names otherwise it may be possible, given the complete list of ShipServ buyers, to deduce who the company is behind the anonymised name.

What if my suppliers don’t want my name on their listing?

They can elect to use the anonymised versions of their customer names if they prefer. Both sides need to agree before a relationship can be made visible on Pages.

I have set my privacy level to be anonymous but I can still see my company name on supplier pages

If you are logged in as a member of your company, your name will still be visible to you on your supplier pages. However, it will be anonymised for users who are not a member of your company. You can check this by signing out and then looking at the pages of your suppliers.

Do reviews affect a supplier’s TradeRank?

Yes, the net number of positive reviews will boost a supplier’s TradeRank.
