Maritime e-commerce reaches major milestone as ShipServ hits 10 million transactions
Maritime e-marketplace exceeds the 10 million transaction mark with an order from Keppel Shipyard to Engtek Pte Ltd.
LONDON, UK, 8 October, 2009 – ShipServ, the leading maritime e-marketplace, today announced it had processed its 10 millionth transaction since the company’s inception.
Over 140 ship owner, managers and yards now use ShipServ to buy more than $1bn in ship supplies each and every year, ranging from stores and provisions to life saving equipment to main engine spares to paint. The 10 millionth transaction was an order from the Keppel Shipyard in Tuas, Singapore to Engtek Pte Ltd., a marketing, sales, and engineering organization for marine, offshore and construction with more than 35 years standing and reputation in South East Asia. The order was timed at 05:48 GMT on 11 September, 2009.
“This is a great day for ShipServ, showing the scale and momentum of our business,” commented Paul Ostergaard, Founder & CEO, ShipServ. “We’ve seen our community more than double in two years, signalling that the time is now for ship managers to adopt ecommerce.”
The next 10 million transactions were kicked off by an order from Van Oord Shipmanagement BV, based in the Netherlands, to Hytorc Nederland B.V., a subsidiary of HYTORC USA, the oldest and largest manufacturer of Hydraulic Torque Tools in the world.
In 2009 ShipServ expects to manage nearly 4 million transactions, meaning a transaction will be processed every 7 seconds, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. On the buyer side these transactions include request for quotations and orders. And on the supplier side, these include quotes and order confirmations.
