Dear Friend of ShipServ:

I would like to thank all participants of the TradeNet Conference 2006. Once again, you contributed to making this a forum – an oasis – where COLLABORATION among trading partners and improvement of processes within the ship supply chain could be discussed without the constraints of day-to-day business dealings.

The TradeNet Conference 2006 was kicked off by our key note speaker Stephen Shapiro, founder of The 24-7 Innovation Group, a management education and research organisation concentrating on innovation and break-through thinking.

In his speech, Stephen focused on how companies and individuals can become more innovative by allowing time for creativity and development when designing or re-arranging work processes.

It is very easy to focus too much on certain issues thereby limiting our ability to think innovatively. When given the task of counting the number of times a basketball was passed around team mates in a video sequence, it took most conference delegates by surprise how difficult it was to count the correct number of passes. Even MORE surprising was that in concentrating on the basketball players, almost everyone failed to notice that a large gorilla walked through the scene midway through the video…

This example clearly showed how easily focusing on a single task can distract us from spotting opportunities that may be all around us. So watch out for that gorilla!

ShipServ TradeNet Conference 2006

ShipServ TradeNet Conference 2006 took place on Wednesday and Thursday, 10-11 May in Copenhagen. It was attended by 105 maritime executives from Africa, America, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

Interesting and inspiring presentations from customers and partners, panel discussions and interactive workshops provided the framework for exchanging ideas on how order management processes could be improved by extending the COLLABORATION between supply chain participants.

Following an introduction on how data quality management is crucial for successful COLLABORATION among trading partners, William Herbert, Chevron and Arto Keskinen, Wartsila presented how each of their respective companies are using data quality management to optimize the ordering process.

In the Ports of Call segment, Bart van Doorn, Vroon BV and Lars Brenneke, EastWind GmbH both gave presentations that described their successful use of e-commerce and the significant benefits they have achieved. Delegates also learned more about ShipServ Pages – the new online sourcing tool for the maritime industry, ShipServ Business Intelligence Solutions and the new Purchase Order Management solution for integrated suppliers which allows suppliers to purchase from their subsuppliers via TradeNet.

Saifee Ship Spare Parts and Chandlers expands relationship with ShipServ

Dubai-based supplier, Saifee Ship Spare Parts and Chandlers, has signed an agreement for integration to the world’s largest maritime e-commerce platform, ShipServ TradeNet.

Saifee’s order management system will be connected to the platform to further optimize business processes and customer service. The integration will go live shortly.

Saifee began using ShipServ 2.5 years ago – the company started off with a simple web-based tool allowing Saifee to receive and submit transactions electronically to ship owners / managers connected to ShipServ TradeNet.

With the growing general acceptance of e-procurement, over time Saifee’s transaction volume increased on ShipServ platform which led to the decision to upgrade to a full integration with Saifee’s order processing system.
