E-commerce in shipping continues to grow at an amazing pace. On ShipServ’s TradeNet platform alone, the number of monthly transactions between ship owners and suppliers has increased by 50% within the last five months!

More than 63,000 transactions were recorded in March and we expect 800,000 transactions – worth more than US$250 million – to be completed in 2005.

To serve the increasing interest in electronic Ship Supply Management (eSSM) solutions, ShipServ is expanding and looking for four new ShipMates in Sales, Business Development, IT Department and Client Relations.

TradeNet Conference 2005 : The Superefficient Company

The TradeNet Conference 2005 will take place Thursday and Friday 16-17 June at Radisson SAS Scandinavia Hotel in Copenhagen and is available to TradeNet Members only.

The programme has been expanded to two days and focuses on how to become a ‘SUPEREFFICIENT’ company. Participants will experience key industry speakers, dynamic and exciting workshops as well as exclusive networking possibilities.

The TradeNet Conference in June 2004 was an unqualified success with more than 80 participants from e.g. Anglo-Eastern Shipmanagement, CEC Shipmanagement A/S, Graig Ship Management Ltd., Hoegh Fleet Services AS, International Coatings, OSG Ltd., Man B&W, and Wartsila.

Transaction take-off

Last month saw an explosion in the number of transactions carried out via TradeNet – over 63,000 in a single month! Or put differently: a 53% increase in just two months!

For 2005, ShipServ estimates that the number of transactions on TradeNet will exceed 800,000 – representing more than US$250 million worth of ship supplies traded and making TradeNet by far the largest and fastest growing e-commerce platform for ship supplies.

More than 3,000 companies in 90 countries are using ShipServ to do electronically what they previously did on paper and by fax.

Some of these progressive and innovative ship owners / managers and suppliers have completely re-engineered their procurement/sales processes around e-business to become more effective and cost-efficient. Others are using e-business as a way to gradually rethink and adjust the way they do business ‘from the outside in’, i.e. with their customers and trading partners in mind.

Staff announcements

Peder Arstorp has joined as Sales Manager, Americas. Peder has been with Xantic (and previously MMS, which was acquired by SpecTec/Xantic) for many years, and is one of the most experienced shipping software sales executives in the marketplace, including extensive experience selling the AMOS M&P system to many large accounts in the Americas.

ShipServ has expanded the sales team in Hong Kong and is happy to welcome Sharon Gill as Sales Manager, Asia. She has comprehensive knowledge of shipping software, having worked as Sales Executive for software provider ShipNet in Singapore and BASS in Kuala Lumpur.

ShipServ has also hired Andrew Bermejo as Sales Manager, Europe. Andrew brings a wealth of experience to ShipServ from senior positions in B2B consulting, sales, marketing and general management. He joins us from a position as Director with A2 Consulting Ltd and was previously Sales & Marketing Director with AT Kearney Procurement Solutions (e-Breviate) where he was responsible for the start up of this e-procurement business in Europe.

In addition to the expansion of ShipServ’s sales force, Don Staffin has been appointed Senior Vice President with responsibility for Global Product Management in order to strenghten the positioning of our current solutions as well as the development of new products.
