ShipServ to act as conduit to global markets for Singapore’s maritime supply industry, assisted by Government incentives
In 2004, the Singapore Government announced a Government grant of S$20 million, over a 5 year period, to encourage maritime SMEs (small-medium business enterprise) to modernize their Information Technology (IT) capabilities as a means to reduce business costs, enhance business processes, provide better customer services and reach out to new global markets.
Administered by Singapore’s Maritime and Ports Authority (MPA), the MERIT (Maritime Enterprise IT Development) programme allows for reimbursement of up to 70 percent of costs incurred in modernising and upgrading operations through the use of IT. Singapore has some 2,000 maritime SMEs, most of which are in the maritime supply business.
ShipServ’s web based trading platform and electronic Ship Supply Management (eSSM) solutions make for an ideal opportunity for not only modernizing a company’s operations but also to give local (Singapore) companies immediate access to global markets for any ship supply company.
To maximize this opportunity, ShipServ has recently appointed Creative eWorld Pte Ltd, a local Singapore System Development & Service company specializing in maritime solutions, as an authorized distributor of ShipServ products ‘SmartSupplier’ and ‘ShipCat’, specifically created for maritime supply companies.
SmartSupplier – being the software that allows suppliers access to ShipServ’s web based trading platform ‘TradeNet’; while ShipCat is the software that allows for suppliers to offer their catalogues electronically to all ship owners and managers connected to TradeNet.
Creative eWorld already had some 40 clients in the maritime business and was quick to see the additional opportunities provided by ShipServ. Creative eWorld has been active in Singapore in providing web based business solutions for 10 years.
Sales Director, Cindy Tan commented: “We immediately saw the potential for ShipServ’s very specific solutions to improving a ship supplier’s operations and specifically for expanding such operations to global markets, at minimal cost and in a very short time span.
“In the short time we have been marketing ShipServ products (March, 2005) we are delighted with the response shown in the market place, resulting in 4 clients taking on ShipServ within the first 2 weeks..”
ShipServ CEO, Paul Ostergaard said: “We commend the Singapore Government on their foresight in encouraging the use of IT to allow local companies to compete in the international markets.
“Creative eWorld has an excellent track record in Singapore as a provider of IT business solutions and their IT experience combined with our specific web based maritime products, will allow the roughly 2,000 maritime SMEs, who take full advantage of the Singapore Government’s MERIT scheme to maximize their efficiency and effectiveness to reach global markets and further improve Singapore’s position as an Asian maritime hub..”
